Nov24twothousandandeight: It's a KIND OF MAGIC..MAGIC...MAGIC!!

Wow, it seems like I haven't written much in months - actually nothing at all! The NYC Marathon has come and gone and I was glad it went well for me in the sense I got through it with no injuries and felt pretty much 100% by the Wednesday. I've ran just twice since and both went well.

Hopefully I'll get back into to running more soon and begin to enjoy the experience of running again.

I'm off work this week which is good esp today when I celebrated turning a yr older....I always think of Freddie Mercury on this date 'cause he passed away on this day back in '91.

Iron Man or what??

Today was busy at work - got plenty of stuff done and the day went by fairly quickly...however, the temps dropped a fair bit in the last 24hrs.
I left work and went to NYRR to p/u my tag # and stuff unsure if I had actually registered for this race; since I never got the race reminder email from NYRR that is usual before any race I've registered for. Luckily I had indeed registered for this race since my tag was there when I looked for it - that at least saved me the $5 that I would have had to pay for last minute registration.
After the p/u I went to a coffee house and got a double espresso and then went to see "Iron Man." It was a really enjoyable flick, Robert Downey Jr. was great and Gwenyth was bearable and Jeff Bridges was almost unrecognizable....I was surprised the film was pg even though it wasn't voilent per se - some parts were probably a bit much for kids!! Or perhaps I'm getting old and conservative.
After the movie I hopped on the train and stopped off for some penne ala vodka in my hood and home for a very uninteresting Datline show...hopefully I'll sleep soundly and have not to many travel problems in the AM as I head out to Coney Island for the BROOKLYN HALF MARATHON!!!!!!!! I've got admit that I'm excited about this race...I hope it goes well and a pr would be great but to finish with not too much pain would be a great end to the week that was. IRON MAN!!!! that's going to be my mantra and motivation tomorrow as I leave the boardwalk on Coney Island and head to the finish at Prospect Park!!!!! Let's hope it's a Good Day tomorrow!!
I need to put a good motivational running mix together on my Ipod for tomorrow's race - song of the week this week for me is:
"Gods of War" Def Leppard Hysteria album...I rediscovered this gem earlier this week when I was downloading their new album.

I can see clearly now the rain has gone!!

The rain finally cleared by late afternoon today and by the time I left the office I didn't need to bring the umbrella...I got home with the intention to chill for about 20 mins or so and then get my running gear on and RUN...it was about 51 degrees so I ran in shorts into Brooklyn as usual...the first mile was tough my legs were killing me and the second one was even worse...I was feeling shin-splints so bad I stopped at the second mile stage and walked a little to try and aleivate the pain...once I began to run it felt a little better yet still tight...on the turn back at the 3rd mile stage I was feeling like I was pushing through the barrier of pain and as I began the ascent of the Pulaski bridge I had the desire to open up the pace and did so and really went much faster than I had the entire duration of this run so far... unfortunately I thought I had hit the timer on my watch so I didn't know the full length of my run or exact pace/time...I didn't feel too put out about it as I had a fair idea how far I had run - I was just happy that I managed to keep to running another run 48 hours after my last run.

After dining on something somewhat healthy! I tuned into "Dancing with Stars" to catch the Def Leppard performance...Unfortunately the "Pour some Sugar on Me" was lip sync'd - because it sounded just like the Album version. I even went online to see if it was indeed mimed and the general concensus was that the song ws lip sung. I checked out their new album - "Song from the Sparkle Louge" which consists of a lot of good tracks, just like the Leps of old: http://www.defleppard.com

Looking back on Yesterday

Well yesterday faired out much better than I had expected, I managed to run over 4 miles which was a big achievement. Thanks to CG the watch she gave me is great for monitoring distance, pace per mile, and many other things. I'm hoping the rain clears by Wednesday so I can run again and even push myself further this week in preperation for Saturday's half marathon.
After the run I took a quick shower and went into the village and met up with E and we spent a few hours together which was a great change - even though I know this relationship is going to be short lived whether it be six months or twelve there is no future no way it is going to become anything more than a fling. But at least I'm not kidding myself - I honestly don't think I'm ready for something long term yet and this is fun and we both know what it is.
I met up with the two later in S&S - it wasn't a bad evening of course sprinkled with the usual drama...and I didn't feel too put out about getting home at 1:30am...I guess since I had a relatively quiet wknd - it kind of felt good to unwind especially after what I felt was a productive day.
Work was fine today - but the weather was terrible...I felt more tired than anything and was glad to finish up before six. I'm looking forward to hitting the sack early tonight.

The rest of Saturday

After an afternoon of unexpected sunshine I decided to go into Manhattan and found myself at peace reading some magazine articles and enjoying a cafe au lait in above all places Bryant Park - an area I was always reluctant to go to because I used to work across the street from there a few years back.
The article on Athestists in New York Magazine was very interesting and I felt very much comforted by it. I can honestly say that the time spent in Bryant Park was probably the first time I actually felt at peace and dare I say happy in a long time. I'm not normally an unhappy person or don't get bouts of depression like some people but I've felt low on some ocassions and perhaps the weather the people present on this particular afternoon had something to do with it.
When the sun disappeared behind some of the high rise buildings I put on my sweater picked up my bag and decided to walk towards the west side. The great thing about living in NY is that Manhattan affords one the opportunity to spend an afternoon wandering around the city aimlessly people watching or just being annomous.
On 8th Avenue I treated myself to a burrito in Mary Annes and then finished reading my magazines in a coffee house in the village...I declined a dinner invitation I received by text since I had already eaten and didn't want to drink tonight. That resolution was broken when I stopped into a bar for one beer before catching the train out home to Queens. Luckily I had my ipod on when some idiot started singing "God Save The Queen" I found myself getting very irratated by his rendition and to make maters worse I don't think he was even English...So I cranked up my Ipod and drowned out his drunken wailing.

Saturday afternoon

I managed to begin my day as I had hoped not to! When I got up I had expected it to be much colder and even raining...when I left my apt. to buy a cup of coffee I discovered that it was much warmer than I thought it was going to be and I was way over-dressed.
I hope to try and run later today...the cleaner is here at the moment "cleaning" - The highlight of my day so far is that Man Utd lost 2-1 to Chelsea in Stamford Bridge...leaving things all tied at the top of the premiership with two games remaining.

Also, I got an interesting invite for tonight that I'm weighing up at the moment.

Friday night - well actually Saturday Morning

I have NOT run since Tuesday evening...it was followed by a dash into Manhattan to meet up with E. Everything went better than I had expected with E. because I was reluctant to even meet up in the first place.
The rest of the week didn't go as planned the plan was to take advantage of the unseasonably warm NY weather and try and run more evenings but I ended up going for drinks on Wednesday night and didn't get home until 1am-ish. Thur wasn't much better in relation to going to try and run after work --because a last minute call from CG meant I was bound for OldTown for a delicious burger and some beers...needless to say I couldn't end the night when CG did and ended up stopping off at a usual haunt on my way home which led to another 1am-ish night out.
Work started the usual way and the day went the same way it usually does on a Friday.
I ended up attending a work event in the early afternoon that was unavoidable and consequently another opportunity to run after work was lost...the weather is supposed to be awful this wknd with rain and a drop in temps.
I'm hoping to wake up early and try and squeeze a run in before the weather gets crappy and try and start some preperation over the next few days/week before next Saturday's Brooklyn half marathon....
I'm feeling like a slug for lack of running and two nights out on the trot!

Hopefully I'll get my sh%t together and get my milage up and focus on this for once!
